Melexis Launches Protective Devices Line
New MLX91299 snubber improves SiC power module efficiency and EV battery range.

Melexis has expanded its microelectronics portfolio with a new product line called Protective Devices, aimed at improving safety, reliability and efficiency in high-voltage power electronics used in electric vehicles and energy management systems.
The product line will be led by Billy Ye, Product Line Director for Protective Devices, focusing on the development of specialized solutions that protect sensitive electronic components while improving performance in advanced power systems.
First device targets SiC power modules
The first product introduced under the new line is the MLX91299, an integrated silicon-based RC snubber designed for silicon carbide (SiC) power modules. These modules are widely used in EV power electronics to increase efficiency and extend vehicle driving range.
The MLX91299 addresses common challenges in fast-switching SiC devices by mitigating high-frequency oscillations, voltage transients and parasitic effects that can create electrical stress and instability.
According to initial measurements, the device can reduce switching losses by up to 50 percent, improving system efficiency and allowing more battery energy to be delivered to the drivetrain rather than lost as heat.
Supporting next-generation EV efficiency
Marc Biron, CEO of Melexis, stated that the new Protective Devices portfolio is designed to meet the growing requirements of the e-mobility sector, where safety, efficiency and robustness are essential.
By enabling better control of high-speed switching effects in SiC modules, the MLX91299 helps designers maximize the performance of next-generation EV power electronics, leading to improved battery utilization and extended driving range.
Strategic collaboration and market expansion
Earlier in January 2026, Melexis also announced that Leapers will integrate the MLX91299 RC snubber into its next-generation power modules. The collaboration is expected to accelerate the development of protective solutions for automotive and industrial systems while strengthening Melexis’ presence in the Asian market.
