Doosan Machine Tools’ Swiss Turn Series PUMA ST10/20/26/32/35/38GS II
Doosan Machine Tools Launches New Swiss Turn PUMA ST GS II Series.
- The new series boasts enhanced rigidity, long term precision machining and unrivalled operational convenience.
Doosan Machine Tools Co., Ltd. has just launched the second-generation lineup of Swiss-type turning centers, the latest in the company’s state-of-the-art PUMA series. The Doosan Swiss Turn is an outstanding piece of precision machinery, optimized for the mass production of small and complex precision parts used in the medical, semiconductor, and electronic industries. The new PUMA ST GSII series features enhanced rigidity and ensures higher quality than its predecessor the PUMA ST GS series. Most notably, the new series offers greatly improved operational convenience by incorporating a chip-breaking solution as a standard feature, thereby helping to improve the customers’ operational environment, reduce processing times, and raise productivity.
Full Lineup to Meet Needs to Process Various Types of Small Workpieces
The new series perfectly meets the needs for machining variety of parts in different sizes by offering product with maximum machining diameters, ranging from 10mm (PUMA ST10GSII) to 20/26/32/35/38mm, providing customers with greater flexibility in meeting their rapidly changing market environment and increasingly sophisticated market needs.
High Precision with Built-in Spindle
The new series features a built-in type of motor which minimizes vibration and noise. The main spindle which rotates at a rapid maximum speed of 12000r/min, allows even higher level of precision machining. Spindle thrust has been increased by 200% compared to the previous model, while RHM width has been increased by 250%. Spindle performance has been greatly enhanced with the adoption of guide bushes that are more resistant to thermal displacement. In addition, Z-axis feed distance has been increased by 40mm, to provide larger back tool workspace as well as an ergonomic work environment for machine operators. Equipped with an optimized cooling system, the new series minimizes mechanical errors (displacement) caused by temperature changes during automatic operation.
Productivity Improvement through Efficient Tool Solution
Cross tools are highly efficient in milling and special machining processes. Although each model has some minor differences, the PUMA ST26GSII provides 5 cross tool holders as a standard feature, along with an option of mounting up to 27 tools, resulting in the highest level of productivity in its class. Notably, an automation line equipped with a bar feeder minimizes the machine downtime required to check compatibility with various specially manufactured tools as well carry out tool setting.
Chip Breaking Solution (CBS) Adopted as a Standard Feature
The PUMA ST GSII series offers the chip breaking solution (CBS) as a standard feature, and supports various machining methods such as internal/external turning, R machining groove, cutting, and drilling. The chip-breaking function works by repeated feeding of the axis and is available in 4 machining modes (Mode 1/2/3/4). Also, the CBS Advance, which is designed to produce high-precision machining results, is applicable to optimize threading process by vibrating the shaft only via changes in the feed speed.
Improved Operational Convenience and Product Quality
To further improve operational convenience, the PUMA ST GSII series has resolved the issue of parts piling up inside the conveyor by expanding the discharge width and height of the parts conveyor. In addition, the new operation panel is packed with outstanding ergonomic design features. The company’s unique EOP (Easy Operation Package) screen makes it easy to access and use the panel screen, which in turn has made the setting and maintenance processes even more convenient. Most notably, in an effort to make the operation more ergonomic, we have adopted common design/layout features for the buttons and the keyboard so that anyone familiar with an ordinary PC can get used to the operation panel easily.
“The PUMA ST GSII series, we have just launched, is a great choice for all customers who has a need to process variety of small 10mm to 38mm diameter parts in large quantities in short amount of time to maximize productivity,” said Kim Jae Seop, CEO of Doosan Machine Tools. “I am convinced that the new series will add massive value to our customers’ businesses.”
