Advantech Server will be Verified as Upgraded Intel Select Solution for NFVI Forwarding Platform to Improve Performance for Next Gen 5G Networks
Advantech (TWSE: 2395.TW) today announced that its SKY-8101D server will soon be verified as upgraded Intel Select Solution for NFVI Forwarding Platform powered with 100GbE Intel Ethernet 800 Series Network Adapters.
- Advantech's SKY-8101D 1U NUMA balanced dual socket server based on 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor will integrate Intel Ethernet 800 Series 100GbE Adapters to support increasing 5G user-plane virtual functions traffic load
- The platform can be deployed as the NFVI layer of a commercial vBNG developed by WWT, NetElastic, Red Hat, Advantech and Intel
The platform provides a workload optimized virtual infrastructure able to cope with the network traffic increase expected from 5G. The SKY-8101D can be integrated as part of a virtual Broadband Network Gateway (vBNG) solution achieving 310Gbps throughput over 4x100GbE interfaces. This solution consumes ~50W less wall power measured during peak performance. Advantech also announced its intention to upgrade other verified Intel Select Solutions for NFVI with the Intel Ethernet 800 Series.
Upgraded Intel Select Solutions for NFVI Forwarding Platform with multiple 100Gbps connectivity improve network performance and can be used by communication service providers to build a single coherent virtual infrastructure for seamless access, next generation central office and core network transformation toward cloud native 5G architectures. Verified platforms are capable of sustained optimized data and control plane processing for workloads spanning the 4G and 5G wireless functions found in vEPC and vUPF, as well as in the wireline network gateway functions vBRAS, vBNG , vAGF and vCMTS. This pre-validated, pre-optimized solutions accelerate deployment and time to revenue, while reducing integration risk for communication service providers.
The Advantech SKY-8101D server will soon be verified as upgraded Intel Select Solution for NFVI Forwarding Platform with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat OpenStack. This compact NUMA balanced 1U server supports 2nd generation Intel Xeon Gold processors, and up to four 100GbE Intel Ethernet 800 Series Network Adapters supporting DPDK network acceleration for up to 400Gbps raw PCIe throughput per system. Advantech SKY-8101D server has been designed for high availability networks with hardware-enhanced reliability and security features including IPMI 2.0 compliant management, redundant firmware images with failsafe upgrades, redundant power supplies, the ability to withstand single fan failures and hot swappable FRUs.
Upgraded configurations integrating the Intel Ethernet 800 Series Network Adapter with Application Device Queues (ADQ) technology provides dedicated queues to key workloads, enabling application-specific data steering, signaling, and rate limiting using an optimized application thread-to-device data path. The ADQ innovation increases application response time predictability, reduces latency, and improves throughput. Additionally, Dynamic Device Personalization (DDP) provides a programmable pipeline for PPPoE and QinQ offload, especially pertaining to vBNG workload, and GTP offload for 5G UPF workload to improve packet processing efficiency that results in higher throughput and reduced latency.
"The introduction of 5G will bring an order of magnitude increase in capacity of network traffic which will impact network operator virtualization strategy especially when deploying user plane functions", said Ben Shen, Product Director, Cloud IoT Group, Advantech. "By verifying our SKY-8101D server for the upgraded Intel Select Solutions for NFVI with multiple100Gbps connectivity, we can help service providers build an optimized virtual infrastructure that streamlines their transition toward 5G with high throughput platforms that are available for deployment today."
"Communications service providers require workload specific platform optimizations that deliver both high performance and flexibility as they upgrade their networks with new 5G infrastructure", said Chandresh Ruparel, Director of Wireless Core Infrastructure Segment, Intel. "By verifying their SKY-8101D for the upgraded Intel Select Solution for NFVI Forwarding Platform with our new Intel Ethernet 800 Series, Advantech can offer service providers an optimized infrastructure solution that can also scale as networks evolve."
SKY-8101D soon to be verified for Intel Select Solutions for NFVI Forwarding Platform configurations with multiple 100GbE connectivity will be available for customer evaluation and deployment Q4 2020.
