The SMP255 Class X2 and the improved SMP253 Class Y2 series - now at Rutronik
Rutronik is expanding its SMD capacitor product portfolio with KEMET's new “across the line” SMP255 capacitor series in safety class X2 and the optimized “line to ground” SMP253E series of RFI suppression capacitors (safety class Y2).

The new KEMET SMP255 and SMP253E capacitors: even more robust, reliable and powerful.
The capacitors impress with their vibration resistance in accordance with IEC 60068 2-6/2-27, their very long service life, a safe failure mode and their power stability. The capacitors achieve the highest safety standard by using epoxy-impregnated paper as a dielectric. In addition, excellent self- healing properties minimize the risk of short circuits, and the use of advanced materials also ensures maximum tightness and therefore particular stability against ionization, corona effect, and partial discharge.
Surface Mount Technology (SMT) enables reduced assembly time, saves space on the PCB and reduces parasitic effects typical of Through-Hole Technology (THT). The capacitors are lead-free and RoHS-compliant, as well as THB-tested and AEC-Q200-certified. This makes them ideal for applications in the automotive sector, such as in infotainment and comfort equipment or safety systems, but they are also ideal for use in the medical and industrial sectors. The capacitors are available at www.rutronik24.com.
SMP255 SMD X2 EMI:
The components have a capacitance range of 10 nF to 150 nF at a nominal voltage of 310 VAC. They can withstand a pulse voltage of up to 1,200 V / µs as well as operating temperatures of up to 125 °C, and fulfil the requirements of the THB Class IIB test at 85 °C and 85 % humidity with 500 operating hours.
Benefits at a glance:
- Capacitance range: 10 nF - 150 nF
- Rated voltage: 310 VAC
- Max. recommended DC voltage: 630 VDC
- High pulse voltage and dV / dt (1,200 V / µs)
- THB class IIB (85 °C, 85 % RH, 500 hours)
- Maximum operating temperature 125 °C
- High vibration resistance
- Safe Failure Mode
Application examples:
Automotive:
- Switched-mode power supplies
- EMI and AC mains filtering
- DC EMI filtering
- EV charging systems
Industrial:
- Short-circuit and overvoltage protection
- Isolators
Medical:
- Medical devices excluding implant equipment
SMP253 SMD Y2 EMI:
With the SMP253E capacitor series, KEMET has optimized the previous SMP253 series. The new series has a capacitance range of 1.0 nF to 4.7 nF at a rated voltage of 300 VAC, a recommended DC voltage of max. 1,500 VDC, and can withstand pulse voltages of up to 2.000 V / µs. The AEC-Q200 certification, the robustness especially under harsh conditions and its reliability and longevity make it the ideal component for applications in the automotive sector, but also for the industrial and medical sectors.
The main differences to the previous model are:
- A higher AC voltage of 300 V instead of 250 V
- Tougher THB Class IIB test conditions (85 °C, 85 % RH, 500 hours at 300 V) compared to SMP253 (40 °C and 93 % humidity, 56 days of operation at 250 V)
- Withstand longer reflow times (150 seconds instead of 50 seconds above 217 °C)
Benefits at a glance:
- Capacitance range: 1.0 nF - 4.7 nF
- Rated voltage: 300 VAC
- Maximum recommended DC voltage: 1,500 VDC
- High surge voltage and dV/dt (2,000 V/µs)
- THB class IIB (85°C and 85% humidity, 500 operating hours) at 300 VAC
- High vibration resistance
- Safe Failure Mode
Application examples:
Automotive:
- On-board chargers
- Auxiliary inverters such as e-compressors
- DC EMI filtering
- Switched-mode power supplies
- Water pumps
Industrial
Medical:
- Medical devices except implant equipment
