ALIYOS™ LED-on-foil technology redefines automotive lighting for ams OSRAM
ams OSRAM and LEONHARD KURZ will introduce their jointly created demonstrator at SIA VISION in Paris.

ALIYOS™ technology enables ams OSRAM to apply LEDs onto a thin, flexible and transparent substrate. This advancement paves the way toward revolutionary designs where light emerges from surfaces, offering a truly fascinating and interactive experience. With the latest demonstrator, ALIYOS™ LED foils are integrated behind various covers. The In-Mold Decoration (IMD) and Functional Foil Bonding (FFB) technologies of our cooperation partner LEONHARD KURZ form the basis for this innovation.

ams OSRAM, a global leader in intelligent emitters and sensors, announces the next step in the development of its ALIYOS™ LED-on-foil technology: the introduction of an innovative approach to integrate LED foils into automotive applications. This cutting-edge method combines the ALIYOS™ technology of ams OSRAM with the innovative In-Mold Decoration (IMD) and Functional Foil Bonding (FFB) technologies of LEONHARD KURZ. By applying heat and pressure in the FFB post-mold, hot stamping process, ALIYOS™ LED foils are integrated behind various covers. Combined with surface decoration via IMD, the result is unparalleled design flexibility, enabling light to emerge from surfaces in ways never before possible, unlocking new opportunities for the automotive lighting industry.

Enriched with the FFB and IMD technologies, the ALIYOS™ demonstrator showcases four distinct, ultra-thin light panels, each featuring unique surface designs and lighting effects. With 32 individually addressable red segments per panel, these designs create captivating light patterns that elevate the aesthetic and functional aspects of automotive interior and exterior lighting. When switched off, the light source becomes invisible, creating the effect of “light appearing out of nowhere” when being switched on. The ALIYOS™ technology meets the latest industry trends, providing automotive designers with powerful new options for creating innovations. “The introduction of the ALIYOS™ technology — and also this demonstrator set up in cooperation with LEONHARD KURZ — reflect ams OSRAM’s innovation leadership position in automotive lighting”, explains Dr. Stephan Hartmann, Vice President Automotive Exterior, and adds: “Our ALIYOS™ technology opens up new paths for creativity in automotive lighting design and enables smart solutions for our customers. We thus unlock a whole new world of possibilities for creating visually captivating and functionally superior lighting solutions that resonate emotionally with users. Furthermore, we increase the efficiency of the lighting solution and flat modules. This saves material while optimizing the utilization of installation space compared to traditional approaches”.

With the ALIYOS™ LED-on-foil technology, segments can be individually formed, creating incredibly detailed and sharp visuals. The full brightness control for each segment enables automotive designers and manufacturers to create dynamic, interactive lighting solutions that enhance vehicle aesthetics. ALIYOS™ offers attractive and functional lighting solutions for various interior and exterior automotive design needs. Constraints due to the complexity, energy intensity or installation size of components are thus reduced and new lighting functions can be smoothly integrated into a car’s design language.

ams OSRAM is joining forces with LEONHARD KURZ to introduce their jointly created demonstrator at SIA VISION 2024 (Paris, France, October 16 to 17, 2024).
