The latest additions to the Vishay BCcomponents portfolio address a long-standing challenge in high-power electronics. Traditionally, DC bus voltages up to 1100 V required designers to place three 400 V to 450 V capacitors in series, along with voltage-balancing resistors—adding PCB complexity, cost, and potential failure points.
With voltage ratings now reaching 600 V, the enhanced 193 PUR-SI capacitors allow designers to meet these voltage requirements using fewer components and eliminate balancing circuits altogether, saving board space and lowering bill-of-materials costs. The added voltage margin also contributes to extended service life and improved system robustness.
Designed for demanding power applications
The 193 PUR-SI series is engineered to withstand the high switching currents found in modern power converters. Key performance highlights include:
- Ripple current up to 3.27 A, up to 30% higher than standard solutions in similar case sizes
- Useful life of 5000 hours at +105 °C, supporting more than 25 years of operation at ambient temperatures up to +60 °C
- Capacitance range from 47 µF to 820 µF
- 25 compact case sizes, from 22 mm × 25 mm to 35 mm × 60 mm
The capacitors feature a cylindrical aluminum case with a blue insulating sleeve and are available with 3-pin keyed polarity snap-in terminals for enhanced PCB mounting stability. All devices are RoHS-compliant.
Broad application scope
As polarized aluminum electrolytic capacitors with non-solid electrolyte, the new 193 PUR-SI devices are ideally suited for:
- DC-link filtering, smoothing, and buffering in switch-mode power supplies
- EV and HEV systems, including chargers, battery management systems (BMS), and motor controls
- Industrial motor drives, air conditioners, and welding equipment
- Solar inverters, UPS systems, and medical equipment
By combining higher voltage capability, strong ripple current handling, and long operational life in compact form factors, Vishay’s extended 193 PUR-SI series provides a space- and cost-efficient solution for next-generation high-power electronic designs.
