Wieland Electric has expanded its portfolio of electrical connection technologies with RST® DIRECT, a direct connection system designed for luminaires and electrical equipment. The solution aims to simplify installation processes and reduce the effort required for electrical wiring.
The system will be presented for the first time at Light + Building 2026 in Frankfurt. Visitors will be able to see the technology demonstrated at stand E71 in Hall 12.
Standardized connection without opening the device
Traditional device connections using cable glands typically require multiple manual steps. Devices must be opened, cables prepared, and internal wiring completed before the housing can be closed again. These procedures increase installation time and introduce potential sources of error.
RST® DIRECT replaces this process with a standardized direct connection concept, allowing electrical connections to be established without opening the device housing. This approach can shorten installation times and improve the predictability of assembly workflows. At the same time, the device enclosure remains sealed, supporting higher protection ratings and improved long-term reliability.
Protection and reliability in demanding environments
The system is designed for applications where installation safety and operational reliability are critical. The connector housing includes defined strain relief and is engineered to withstand demanding environmental conditions.
An integrated Internal Waterstop prevents moisture from entering the cable interior. This longitudinal sealing protects against water intrusion through damaged cables that could otherwise spread along the conductor through capillary effects and reach connected equipment.
In addition to the direct connector, the system also includes an RST® DIRECT cable connector designed for cable extensions, repairs or retrofit applications, such as in the case of cable damage or when devices need to be integrated into existing wiring systems.
Modular design for flexible applications
The modular architecture of RST® DIRECT supports integration into a wide range of device and installation configurations. Internal adapters with push-in connections enable simplified integration within equipment and may support automated or robotic wiring processes in industrial production environments.
Depending on the application, versions are available with one connection point per pole for compact installations or two connection points per pole to enable through-wiring and greater flexibility in device design.
Tool-free installation for field applications
For on-site installation, the system includes a lever-based connection mechanism that allows tool-free wiring. Solid and stranded conductors up to 2.5 mm² can be connected with minimal force. Clear pole markings improve readability even under poor lighting conditions, while the distinct locking mechanism provides installers with tactile confirmation that the connection has been secured.
Three- and five-pole versions can be installed directly into prepared M20 housing openings, allowing existing installations that use traditional cable glands to transition to modern connection technology with limited modification effort.
Demonstration at Light + Building 2026
At Light + Building 2026, Wieland Electric specialists will demonstrate the RST® DIRECT system in operation and explain how it can be integrated into broader installation concepts. Visitors will also be able to explore how the system interacts with other components and discuss specific applications with technical experts on site.
