Cloud-Based Remote Hardware Validation Platform

Arrow Electronics has launched Digital Test Drive, a cloud-based remote engineering platform designed to simplify hardware evaluation and shorten early-stage development cycles. The service provides engineering teams with browser-based access to physical development boards and software environments hosted in Arrow’s engineering laboratories, supporting faster prototyping, validation and distributed collaboration.

Remote Access to Physical Development Hardware

The platform addresses common challenges in embedded systems development and digital supply chain workflows, including hardware availability constraints, shipping delays and software configuration requirements. Through a secure web connection, users can connect to preconfigured virtual machines and remotely interact with physical evaluation kits in real time.

Digital Test Drive allows developers to run hardware and software tests, access integrated development environments and review live test results without requiring local installation or on-site hardware deployment. The service is intended for applications such as embedded computing, industrial automation, IoT device development and semiconductor evaluation, where rapid iteration and hardware accessibility are critical to project timelines.

Engineering Collaboration and Technical Support

Arrow Electronics stated that the system also supports workshops, technical training, product demonstrations and live engineering assistance. By centralising development resources in cloud-accessible laboratories, the platform enables geographically distributed teams to evaluate multiple hardware configurations without duplicating equipment purchases or managing international shipment logistics.

The launch reflects broader industry adoption of remote engineering infrastructure and automotive data ecosystem platforms that support collaborative hardware validation across multiple locations. Remote-access testing environments are increasingly used to reduce development overheads and improve utilisation rates for specialised evaluation equipment.

Murdoch Fitzgerald, chief growth officer of global services for Arrow’s global components business, said the platform was developed to reduce delays associated with hardware procurement, setup and deployment. He added that the service enables engineering teams to access development tools immediately through a web-based interface while reducing initial testing costs.

Integration with Existing Evaluation Services

Digital Test Drive complements Arrow Electronics’ existing Test Drive programme, which provides customers with physical hardware loan units for on-site evaluation for up to 28 days.
