FR3 Testbed Supports 6G Research and Standardization

Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR), a testing and certification institute headquartered in Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, Korea, has adopted Anritsu’s Radio Communication Test Station MT8000A to establish a test environment for the FR3 frequency range. The setup extends KTR’s existing evaluation capabilities for 4G and 5G technologies and supports research, development, certification, and standardization verification for future 6G systems.

FR3 is being considered as a frequency range for next-generation mobile communications. Evaluating technologies in this range requires test environments capable of supporting technical verification during the research and standardization stages, as well as requirements associated with eventual certification.

Roles of KTR and Anritsu
KTR is responsible for testing, certification, and technical evaluation across multiple industries, including information and communication equipment. The institute will use the FR3 testbed to evaluate technologies and perform technical verification related to 6G standardization.

Anritsu provides the radio communication test equipment used to create the evaluation environment. Its role also includes supporting the integration of automated test software with the test station to enable more systematic testing and evaluation.

Test environment and technical operation

The MT8000A supports FR3 frequency-range testing and can be used as part of an evaluation environment for wireless communication technologies. By combining the test station with automated test software, KTR plans to improve the efficiency and repeatability of research and development activities in the FR3 band.

The testbed is intended to support technical verification as 6G specifications develop. KTR also plans to explore applications including 6G signaling tests, extending the environment beyond laboratory research toward more structured evaluation activities.

Applications for 6G development
The cooperation is relevant to telecommunications research, wireless equipment development, testing, and certification. An FR3 evaluation environment can provide researchers and equipment developers with a controlled setup for examining radio communication technologies before their integration into future commercial systems.

KTR will use the platform for FR3 technology evaluation and verification, while Anritsu contributes test and measurement capabilities. The combined approach provides a technical infrastructure for evaluating emerging 6G technologies as standardization activities progress.
