Voltcraft Release New Bench Power Supply Unit

Right in time for their 40th company anniversary, Voltcraft have released the DSP-3005V which is now available on the Conrad Sourcing Platform. These days, Voltcraft supply over 60 different types of power supply units, covering all power rating classes, and being suited to any task you can think of. Bench power supply units have always been part of the Voltcraft brand.

Voltcraft Release New Bench Power Supply Unit

Compact bench power supply unit featuring a high-resolution 2.8” TFT LC display: Voltcraft‘s DSP-3005V packs state-of-the-art technology and innovative functions.

  • Simple high-resolution colour LC display
  • Ultra-compact, suited for a wide range of tasks
  • Low-ripple, low-noise

A few years later, Voltcraft’s DIGI 35 became the stuff of legends as it allowed entering current and voltage outputs via a keypad, also featuring a serial interface connecting the device to a PC.

Right in time for their 40th anniversary, Voltcraft’s DSP-3005V sets a new benchmark when it comes to SMPSUs.

In fact, way back in 1982, the year the brand was established, Voltcraft released the TNG 30, a PSU with adjustable power output, the first of its kind. The second generation came out in 1998, sported a grey housing and the 4 mm banana jacks that are still being used today.

Neat Display for Settings and Analysis
The main eyecatcher is the 240 x 320p high-resolution colour LC display capable of rendering 65,536 colours. The screen allows choosing and editing settings, viewing them, and display the parameters either as simple numerals, or in the form of graphs. The quality and functionality of the screen also enables showing more complex arrangements such as lists of signal parameters. Kilian Braun, the product manager who looks after the Soldering & Testing Equipment category at Conrad, is impressed: “The colourful display doesn’t just look nice, it also provides plenty of information, such as upper and lower output limits, wattage, and I-V curves. Which is by no means standard for this type of product.”

Compact. Quiet. Powerful.
Workshop. Laboratory. Classroom. Due to the compact design measuring 82 x 142 x 226 mm (W x H x D), there aren’t many tasks the DSP-3005V isn’t suited to, including those in confined space. Besides being extremely reliable, the product is also very quiet thanks to temperature-controlled fan cooling.

And this on top anything else the Voltcraft bench power supply unit has to offer: adjustable overvoltage protection (OVP) and overcurrent protection (OCP), quick-select parameter storage, and outputting signals displayed on a list compiled by the user. What’s more, the product also enables setting up complex R&D testing scenarios via a SCPI USB interface that allows programming and controlling the device using external software. Alternatively, this can be done by software provided by the manufacturer that is available for download here.

Signal Parameter Lists for Testing and Simulations
User-programmable parameter lists enable a specific voltage and current output over a user-defined period of time. Switched into waveform mode, the device allows displaying the results in the form of a parametric graph. Among other things, this makes the DSP-3005 also suitable for simulating a fluctuating input voltage during prototype testing.

Low Ripple. Low Noise.
Low ripple and low noise characteristics are among the key features people are looking for in bench power supply units, as any unwanted interference forwarded to test equipment powered by the PSU might result in inaccurate readings. A noise bandwidth of 20MHz and a ripple bandwidth of 1 MHz that generates a ripple voltage not exceeding 30 mV (Vp-p) show that the design engineers at Voltcraft managed to develop a product that excels in this regard, too. “The DSP-3055V is a compact, quiet, high-performance, high-efficiency SMPSU that comes with the option to create signal lists, quick-parameter memory selection and other features such as OVP and OCP,” concludes Kilian Braun. “Means this product is setting a new benchmark for other power supply units in the same price bracket.”
