The TFBS4xx and TFDU4xx series feature the latest in-house IC and surface emitter chip technology from Vishay, enabling a 20% longer connection distance of up to 1 meter. They also score points for their improved ESD resistance up to 2 kV and support data rates of up to 115.2 kbit/s. Thanks to their low power consumption, the components are particularly suitable for wireless communication and data transmission, e.g. in electricity meters, industrial automation control systems, mobile phones, and medical devices. They are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and "Vishay-green" available at www.rutronik24.com.

The upgrade of the TFBS4xx and TFDU4xx series consists of a photodetector, a preamplifier circuit, and an IR filter in a single housing, which is offered in different sizes as a "top-view" or "side-view" housing for surface mounting. The improved solutions enable a plug-and-play replacement for existing components in the series.

With these IR transceiver modules, customers benefit from the long-term availability of IRDC products. The drop-in technology also saves costs, as a new PCB design is obsolete. The modules impress with their very low power consumption with a quiescent current of less than 70 μA and thus extend the service life of batteries in portable devices. They work in an operating voltage range of 2.4 V to 5.5 V at an operating temperature of -25 °C to +85 °C.

The components comply with the latest IrDA® specification for the physical layer, are backwards compatible, and are available in a wide range of housing sizes.
