5908 Series Connector
Kyocera Corporation has developed the 0.4 mm pitch board-to-board connector, the 5908 Series, the first in its lineup to feature a fully shielded structure*1. Sales of this product, which enhances EMI characteristics*2 by suppressing electromagnetic interference and supports high-speed transmission, has begun on Thursday, July 31.
To address this, Kyocera has introduced a fully shielded structure in the 0.4 mm pitch board-to-board connector “5908 Series”, which offers excellent EMI characteristics by effectively suppressing noise intrusion and leakage.
MAIN FEATURES
1. Fully shielded structure provides excellent EMI characteristics, supporting high-speed transmission
A fully shielded structure has been adopted, in which the outer circumference of both the plug side
and the receptacle side is covered with a conductive metal (Figure 1). Since the fully shielded structure covers the main body and mating area of the connector with a metal shell, it can maximally suppress the intrusion and leakage of noise, thereby improving EMI characteristics. When mated, this product forms a double-shielded structure, allowing the electrical signal circuits to pass through the shield, which suppresses noise generation (Figure 2).
Supports high-speed transmission standards | PCI Express*3 Gen.3 (8Gbps) and USB*4 3.2 Gen.2 (10Gbps), etc.

The plug side and the receptacle side shown in the upper diagram are mated,
the shield section becomes double

Figure2:
Flow of electric signals (red line) in the shield structure

Figure3:
Difference in noise generated during current flow between a non-shielded
structure and a fully shielded structure (5908 series) (analysis results)
2. Unique locking mechanism increases robustness and improves retention force by 30%
The plug features a convex shape and the receptacle a concave shape, creating a locking structure that ensures secure mating and increases retention force by 30% compared to our previous products. Both components also feature an R-shaped design to facilitate assembly and enhance workability.
