Through-hole SMD female headers for automated electronics manufacturing

Fischer Elektronik GmbH & Co. KG has launched a new series of through-hole female headers that combine SMT solderability with additional THT anchoring to improve mechanical stability and manufacturing reliability in PCB assemblies.

The BL-1/2-SMD-BE series addresses the demand for connectors that can be processed in fully automated SMT production while withstanding higher mechanical loads in compact assemblies. By combining surface-mount pads with through-hole pins, the design creates a hybrid mounting approach that significantly improves connection robustness.

Form factors, contacts, and finishes
The female headers are available in single-row and double-row configurations. Double-row variants offer up to 80 positions, while single-row versions provide up to 40 positions. Contact finishes include gold-plated and tin-plated options to balance electrical performance, corrosion resistance, and cost requirements.

Integration into automated manufacturing
The series is SMT-compatible as standard and optimized for automated pick-and-place assembly. Packaging options such as tape-and-reel, stick magazines, and placement aids support stable, high-volume production processes. Optional positioning pins ensure accurate alignment during assembly and improve force distribution to the PCB and insulator body.

Additional THT soldering of the contacts increases mechanical durability, particularly in applications exposed to direct mechanical stress, vibration, or frequent mating cycles.
