Automated Testing Integration for Embedded Software Development

Embedded software in safety-critical systems requires structured testing to verify reliability and functional safety throughout development. In this context, Razorcat Development GmbH and SEGGER Microcontroller GmbH have partnered to strengthen integration between automated testing and embedded development tools.

Integrating test automation with embedded development workflows
The collaboration focuses on deeper integration between Razorcat’s TESSY testing platform and SEGGER’s embedded development tools. The aim is to streamline testing workflows and improve compatibility between development, debugging, and verification environments.

TESSY is a unit and integration testing platform widely used in embedded software projects, particularly those involving safety-related applications. The tool automates test creation and execution cycles while supporting structured test management across development teams.

It supports a wide range of microcontrollers, compilers, and debugging tools, enabling embedded developers to run automated verification processes within existing development environments.

Connecting development environments with automated testing
SEGGER’s tools are already integrated with TESSY, and the partnership focuses on expanding this integration.

SEGGER Embedded Studio provides an integrated development environment for embedded project management and firmware development. The platform includes the SEGGER Toolchain, which generates optimized firmware and supports debugging and testing through direct integration with J-Link debug probes.

Embedded Studio also includes a core simulator, allowing software tests to run without requiring physical hardware. This capability enables faster early-stage verification during embedded development.

Within this workflow, TESSY can generate tests based on existing Embedded Studio projects. Test execution is performed using J-Run or emSim, which collect test results during automated runs.

If a test fails, TESSY can automatically initiate a debugging session in Embedded Studio, allowing developers to analyze issues directly within the development environment.

Expanding collaboration around embedded testing tools
The new partnership builds on existing interoperability between TESSY and SEGGER tools such as Embedded Studio and J-Link. By formalizing the collaboration, both companies plan to further expand tool integration and improve technical support for users working with both platforms.

The cooperation is intended to simplify automated testing workflows in embedded software projects while improving coordination between development and verification environments. Future development plans include further integration around testing tools such as SEGGER J-Run, supporting automated test execution in embedded development pipelines.
