Cloud Platform Integrates Embedded System Design

Renesas Electronics has announced the general availability of Renesas 365, a cloud-based development environment designed to integrate semiconductor device exploration, model-based system design and early-stage validation. The platform, developed in collaboration with Altium, aims to unify hardware and software design workflows within a single engineering environment.

Renesas 365 connects silicon device data, development tools and system-level modeling capabilities to help engineering teams evaluate embedded system architectures more efficiently.

Addressing Fragmented Embedded Design Workflows
Embedded system development often involves separate tools for component selection, hardware design and software development. Engineers must typically review datasheets, application notes and development files manually when evaluating device suitability.

Renesas 365 consolidates these resources in a cloud-managed environment. The platform links software libraries, device documentation and system design tools, enabling engineers to explore hardware and software architectures collaboratively.

By connecting these elements into a single workflow, the platform provides system-level context that can guide component selection and design decisions.

Model-Based Microcontroller Selection
The first phase of the platform integrates more than 550 variants from Renesas’ RA family of Arm-based microcontrollers.

Instead of selecting devices solely by comparing datasheets, the platform uses model-based evaluation to recommend microcontrollers based on system requirements such as pin usage, peripheral availability, timing constraints and power consumption.

This approach allows engineers to evaluate system configurations more quickly. According to Renesas, tasks that traditionally require extensive manual datasheet comparison can be completed within minutes using guided recommendations.

Integrated Development Environment Support
Renesas 365 integrates with the company’s existing embedded development tools, including the e²studio integrated development environment and the Flexible Software Package.

These tools allow engineers to configure peripherals, compile software and manage embedded code for RA microcontrollers while maintaining system-level visibility within the platform.

The environment also provides documentation and reference designs covering application domains such as sensing systems and power management.

AI-Assisted Design and OTA Management
The platform incorporates AI-assisted features to identify potential design constraints and resource conflicts. Engineers receive guidance on issues such as peripheral allocation, power requirements and system compatibility.

Renesas 365 also supports over-the-air device management for RA microcontrollers. This capability enables developers to manage firmware updates and configuration changes after deployment.

Open Ecosystem for System Development
Renesas designed the platform as an open ecosystem that allows integration of third-party components, sensors and development tools. Engineers can evaluate mixed-vendor architectures within the system model and compare alternative configurations.

Future updates will expand the platform to support additional Renesas product families and introduce subsystem building blocks such as power management circuits and peripheral configurations.

These system-level components are intended to accelerate development by providing prevalidated hardware and software modules that can be integrated into embedded designs.
