Laser triangulation sensor increases measurement rate and integration

The optoNCDT 5500 laser triangulation sensor has been updated with enhanced performance parameters and expanded interface options to meet the requirements of high-dynamic measurement tasks. The sensor achieves a measurement rate of up to 150 kHz across the full measuring range and offers repeatability below 0.04 µm. In addition, ambient light resistance has been increased to up to 200,000 lux, and temperature stability improved to ±0.008% of full scale per Kelvin.

Enhanced performance for precise inline measurements
The combination of high measurement speed and improved repeatability enables use in applications involving fast motion sequences and tight tolerances. Increased resistance to ambient light and improved temperature stability ensure consistent measurement results under varying industrial conditions.

With the addition of a new 50 mm measuring range, the sensor series now covers a broader range of applications. Available variants include measuring ranges of 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 mm, each offering both standard and extended measurement ranges.

Direct industrial Ethernet integration
The updated sensor supports direct fieldbus connectivity via industrial Ethernet. Depending on the model, PROFINET or EtherCAT interfaces are available, allowing integration into control systems without additional interface modules.

This architecture reduces installation complexity and enables real-time data transmission. Parameterization can be performed via industrial Ethernet or through an integrated web interface.

Oversampling and deterministic data transmission
For applications requiring high-speed data acquisition, the sensor includes an oversampling function. This allows measurement values—depending on the fieldbus—to be captured or transmitted up to 20 times faster than the bus cycle time.

The PROFINET version additionally supports PROFINET IRT (Isochronous Real-Time), enabling deterministic and time-synchronized data transmission. This is particularly relevant for synchronized processes and high-performance automation systems.

Applications in automation and quality control
With its extended capabilities, the sensor is suited for applications in industrial automation, robotics, and quality control. Typical use cases include inline measurement, position monitoring, and high-precision distance measurement in fast production processes.

The combination of high measurement speed, improved system integration, and expanded measuring ranges supports flexible deployment in modern manufacturing environments with increasing demands for precision and real-time data availability.
