Zener diodes for power line surge protection contributing to improvement of equipment reliability : CEZ series, CUZ series, MUZ series, MSZ series

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation ("Toshiba") will start manufacturing sequentially 24 products in CEZ series, CUZ series, MUZ series, and MSZ series of Zener diodes that protect semiconductor devices from switching surges, inductive lightning surges[1] and electrostatic discharge (ESD)[2].

In power lines of equipment, switching surges up to the order of thousands volts with long pulse widths up to milliseconds may be generated when the circuit switches. The new products protect semiconductor devices from switching surges and overvoltage with frequency close to DC. They can also protect semiconductor devices from ESD[2] with several hundred nanoseconds width and inductive lightning surges[1] with pulse width in the order of microseconds as well. In addition, their low dynamic resistance and low clamp voltage characteristics allow them to absorb surges well, lowering the voltage applied to the semiconductor devices. This contributes to the improved equipment reliability.

Products supporting six values of Zener voltage (typ.) from 5.6 V to 24 V to cover major power lines are offered in four packages. The lineup comprises a total of 24 products. They can be used for various voltage lines and mounting areas.
