STMicroelectronics has introduced the DCP3603, a compact monolithic buck converter designed to deliver up to 3A output current while minimizing board space and component count.

Compact design for diverse applications
Housed in a 3mm × 1.6mm footprint, the DCP3603 supports an input voltage range of 3.3V to 36V, making it suitable for:
  • Smart meters
  • Household appliances
  • Industrial 24V systems
Its integrated architecture simplifies power design, helping engineers accelerate development and improve system reliability.

High efficiency with minimal components
The converter leverages synchronous rectification to achieve up to 93% efficiency (at 600mA, 12V input, 5V output).

With internal power switches and compensation, only a few external components are required:
  • Inductor
  • Bootstrap capacitor
  • Filter capacitors
  • Feedback resistors
This ensures a low bill of materials (BOM) and reduces overall design complexity.

Flexible operation for varied requirements
The DCP3603 is available in two variants to meet different application needs:
  • Forced-PWM mode – ideal for noise-sensitive environments
  • Pulse-skipping mode – optimized for light-load efficiency
Additional features include:
  • Frequency dithering to reduce EMI noise
  • Low quiescent current (85µA) for energy savings
