PHYTEC at VISION: The Smallest Embedded Cameras with S-Mount and an ISP Calibration Service for i.MX 8M Plus Projects

Professional image processing for series products: Phytec will showcase components and services for a fast and cost-effective way to market at the Vision Trade Fair (Stuttgart, October 04-06).

At VISION, Phytec will present the smallest embedded cameras with S-mount and an ISP calibration service for i.MX 8M Plus projects.

Innovations include the smallest board-level cameras with S-mount at a mere 18 x 26 mm, cable lengths of up to 15 meters with FPD-Link III and MIPI interface, and an ISP calibration service for vision systems with the i.MX 8M Plus processor.

Individual ISP Calibration at a Package Price
As an NXP Gold Partner and one of the first companies ever to do so, Phytec enables its customers to perform image pre-processing in the two integrated Image Signal Processors (ISP) of the i.MX 8M Plus. This reduces the load on the main CPU of the NXP processor and allows optimal use of computing power and functionality.

For typical pre-processing tasks such as demosaicing, black-level calibration, and noise reduction, the Board Support Package of the phyCORE processor modules include a ready-made ISP base calibration for phyCAM camera modules. In addition, Phytec offers calibration of the individual optical system consisting of camera and lens as a service for customer-specific developments.

This is made possible by corresponding NXP tools and a laboratory for optical measurements at the company’s headquarters in Mainz as well as by the comprehensive experience from numerous projects. At a price of 1,350 euros (plus VAT), the "Optics 1" calibration package includes the basic calibration of individual camera/lens combinations as well as fixed-value tuning of brightness, contrast, saturation and HUE on request. Project-specific parameters can be taken into account.

Extremely Small Board-Level Cameras with MIPI Interface
Further novelties from Phytec are the smallest MIPI cameras for S-mount lenses of the phyCAM-M-mini series, measuring 18 x 26 mm. Here, the company is showing the VM-116 with 1 MPixel resolution and global shutter as a complement to the VM-117 (5MPixel, rolling shutter). Both modules have long-term availability, are suitable for industrial use, and can be ordered with monochrome or color sensors.

For connection to processor boards, both cameras feature the phyCAM-M interface for best MIPI CSI-2 signal quality. For this interface, Phytec will also show an FPD-Link III converter that solves the length limitations for MIPI cables and allows up to 15 meters of cable between camera module and processor board. Other board-level cameras with FPD-Link III interface will also be presented, complementing the wide range of compact and cost-effective embedded cameras.
