Phytec integrates Hailo AI chips into individual electronics
Phytec and Hailo have announced a partnership for customized AI electronics at the embedded world trade fair.

Phytec will integrate the Hailo AI chips into its hardware; Hailo will provide Phytec with specific tools and resources to enable the company to optimize implementation. At embedded world, Phytec presented a phyBOARD-Pollux AI kit with NXP i.MX 8M Plus processor, including Hailo 8 AI processor integrated as M.2 module.
Full support of the Hailo AI chip
The Hailo AI chips are fully supported by the Linux BSPs of Phytec's System on Modules (SOM) and Single Board Computers (SBC). Customers can integrate the chips for functional models and prototypes as modules via M.2 or miniPCIe and thus get started quickly and easily with their developments. For volume production and individual electronics, Phytec takes over the design-in of the Hailo chips. Phytec also advises and supports its customers in AI projects from the idea to the finished product. This includes comprehensive training for developers, which Phytec offers as part of its phyAcademy.
Yves Astein, Head of Product Management at Phytec said: “The Hailo AI chips offer high-performance computing power, combined with low energy consumption and heat dissipation. They perfectly correspond to our idea of ideal embedded components. Along with Hailo’s large library of AI models and developer tools, they enable our customers to develop their products quickly and cost-effectively. We are very pleased to be a partner of this innovative company.”
Andreas Lambauer, Sales Director Hailo Europe, is also pleased about the cooperation: “Our AI chips make deep learning applications more efficient and cost-effective. We are delighted to be partnering with Phytec as an experienced partner for integration into embedded hardware. The company offers both kits for a quick start into development as well as individual electronics for professional products and volume production.”
World's most powerful AI processor
Hailo-8 is currently the world's most powerful AI processor for edge devices. It offers 26 TOPS (tera operations per second) of computing power and, with its tiny footprint, can be ideally integrated into embedded hardware as a building block. Hailo-8 enables real-time and ultra-low-latency applications. It uses a patented data-flow architecture that enables ultra-fast, parallel processing of multi-level AI models. With its extended temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, the Hailo-8 AI chip is suitable for professional products and industrial applications.
Phytec develops and produces embedded system on modules, processor boards and complete systems for industrial series production in Mainz, Germany. The company also offers comprehensive services, from the development of individual hardware and software to embedded imaging integration, security, update and device management.
